Zone Types

Understanding Safe Zones, Danger Zones, and PvP territories in Arcania.

"Beyond the walls of our cities lies a world hungry for blood. Know where you tread, hero."

  • Erion, Last of the Gods

Arcania's world is divided into different zone types, each with distinct rules for safety, combat, and death penalties. Understanding these zones is crucial for survival.

🟢 Safe Zones

No danger. Full services. Nexus accessible.

Safe Zones are protected areas where combat is disabled and you can safely manage your character.

Characteristics

FeatureStatus
Monster spawnsNone
PvPDisabled
Death penaltyN/A (cannot die)
Nexus accessYes - can exit to Nexus
ServicesAll NPCs, vendors, facilities

Examples

ZoneLocation
Valoryn CapitalHeart of the kingdom
Meridia CapitalCoastal trading hub
Lythora CapitalForest sanctuary
Redmire CapitalMountain stronghold
Lumeria CapitalArcane city
OutpostsVarious safe points in wilderness

Available in Safe Zones

  • Vault Access - Transfer items safely
  • NPC Vendors - Buy/sell items
  • Forgemaster - Crafting station
  • Quest NPCs - Accept and turn in quests
  • Exit to Nexus - Safe logout

Note

You can only exit to the Nexus from Safe Zones. Attempting to logout elsewhere will result in your character remaining in the world (and potentially dying).

🟡 PvE Danger Zones

Monsters present. Durability loss on death. No PvP.

Most of the world falls into this category - wilderness areas where monsters roam but players cannot attack each other.

Characteristics

FeatureStatus
Monster spawnsYes
PvPDisabled
Death penalty40% durability loss
Nexus accessNo - must return to Safe Zone
ServicesLimited (some outposts have vendors)

Examples

ZoneDescription
Free Realm WildernessForests, plains, caves outside cities
Low-level DungeonsInstanced or open-world monster areas
Resource gathering areasMining, herbalism, hunting grounds

Death in PvE Zones

When you die to monsters in a PvE zone:

  1. 40% durability loss on all equipped items
  2. Respawn at nearest Safe Zone or outpost
  3. 10-second debuff - Resurrection Sickness (reduced stats)
  4. No item drops - Bag contents are safe

Warning

Item Destruction: If durability reaches 0%, the item is permanently destroyed. Two deaths without repairing (40% + 40% = 80%) leaves you dangerously close to losing your gear!

Tip

Always repair your equipment at a Blacksmith NPC in Safe Zones. The gold cost is much cheaper than losing your items forever.

🟠 Hard PvE Zones

Extremely dangerous monsters. SEVERE durability loss on death. No PvP.

The deep Dominion territories and challenging dungeons fall into this category - deadly PvE content without the added threat of other players. Death here is especially punishing.

Characteristics

FeatureStatus
Monster spawnsYes - elite and boss monsters
PvPDisabled
Death penalty80% durability loss
Nexus accessNo - must return to Safe Zone
ServicesNone or very limited

Examples

ZoneDescription
Deep DreadmarInner corrupted territories
Stonegrave DepthsUnderground dominion areas
Boss ChambersDominion General lairs
High-tier DungeonsEndgame instanced content

Why Hard PvE?

Some Dominion territories are designated Hard PvE rather than PvP to:

  • Allow challenging content without grief potential
  • Enable group PvE progression
  • Provide "hardcore but fair" experiences

Warning

80% Durability Loss: One death to a boss brings your gear to 20% durability. A second death would destroy all your equipment permanently. Come prepared with full repairs and don't underestimate these zones!

🔴 PvP Zones

Players can attack you. Items drop on death. Maximum risk, maximum reward.

Contested territories where players can freely attack each other. Death here means potentially losing items from your Bag to your killer.

Characteristics

FeatureStatus
Monster spawnsYes
PvPEnabled - players can attack
Death penaltyRandom item drops from Bag
Nexus accessNo - must return to Safe Zone
ServicesNone (hostile territory)

Examples

ZoneDescription
Contested Dominion bordersFrontier areas between realms
Eclipse BarrensLawless wasteland
Mire of Whispers edgesCorrupted borderlands
Resource hotspotsRare material spawns attract conflict

Death in PvP Zones

When you die in a PvP zone:

  1. Random items drop from your Bag (3-5 items typically)
  2. Dropped items are lootable by anyone
  3. Equipped items are SAFE - they stay with you
  4. Respawn at nearest Safe Zone
  5. Resurrection Sickness - 10-second reduced stats

The PvP Risk/Reward

Can lose Bag itemsRare resource spawns
Other players huntingExclusive material drops

No services nearbyExcitement and adrenaline

Warning

Exit Warning: If you try to exit to Nexus while in a PvP zone, your character will be killed instantly. Always return to a Safe Zone before logging out!
