Eclipse Barrens
The fourth dominion - a desolate stretch where titan-scarred earth trembles beneath Morgathis, Hand of the Titan.
"The Barrens are where hope goes to die. Not from enemies-from emptiness. The land itself despairs. Morgathis is just its voice."
- Field Chaplain's Report
Eclipse Barrens is the fourth dominion, a desolate expanse where the sky itself seems wounded. An eternal partial eclipse hangs overhead, casting everything in sickly half-light. Here, Morgathis, Hand of the Titan waits-an avatar carved from ruin, shaped by the same primordial force that once split the heavens.
| Attribute | Value | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Dominion Level | 4 | Elite territory, tests faith and willpower |
| Boss | Morgathis, Hand of the Titan | Avatar of the Dark Titan's will |
| Environment | Desolate Plains | Eternal twilight, cracked earth, howling void-wind |
| Primary Threat | Despair | Willpower erosion, faith attacks, hopelessness |
The Land
Before the Fall
The Eclipse Barrens were once called the Sunward Plains-fertile grasslands that received more sunlight than anywhere else in Arcania. Farmers, ranchers, and travelers crisscrossed these lands freely.
After Corruption
The Anguish Stone's power reached here and wounded the sky itself. A permanent eclipse settled over the region-not true darkness, but something worse: eternal half-light that never brightens, never fully darkens. The land withered. The people fled or died. What remains is emptiness given geography.
Environmental Hazards
- The Half-Light - Colors fade, perception dims, morale drains
- Void-Wind - Strips away magical protections and buffs
- Despair Zones - Areas where hope actively attacks the mind
- The Trembling - Earth shakes with titan-scarred breath; causes disorientation
Morgathis, Hand of the Titan
Origin
Morgathis was not born, transformed, or corrupted-it was constructed. When the Eterna Citadel fell, a colossal hand emerged from the dimensional rift and crushed it. That hand did not vanish. Instead, it detached from whatever larger form it belonged to and became Morgathis-an avatar of the Dark Titan's lingering will.
Nature
Morgathis is not truly alive. It is an echo of cosmic ambition given form-the Dark Titan's drive to consume and grow, concentrated into a being of incredible power. It serves Alassa because the Anguish Stone commands it, but some believe it has its own agenda: to serve as a seed from which the Dark Titan might one day return.
| Attribute | Value | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Type | Titan Avatar | Fragment of cosmic being given autonomy |
| Combat Style | Overwhelming Presence | Aura effects, despair attacks, cosmic power |
| Weakness | Divine Light | The Spark of Light is its antithesis |
| Special Mechanic | Titan's Whisper | Offers power in exchange for submission |
Abilities
| Phase | Ability | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Phase 1 | Crushing Presence | Passive aura, reduces all stats nearby |
| Phase 1 | Eclipse Beam | Line attack that corrupts those hit |
| Phase 2 | Titan's Whisper | Attempts to turn party members; resist check |
| Phase 2 | Reality Warp | Battlefield shifts; positions randomize |
| Phase 3 | Hand of the Titan | Ultimate attack; must be interrupted or party wipes |
Tip
Morgathis's "Titan's Whisper" can turn party members against each other. Strong-willed characters and those with faith-based abilities resist more easily. Paladins with the Spark shine here.
Strategy
Recommended Party
- Tank: Faith-based mitigation essential; physical armor less important
- Healer: Clerics excel here; the Eternal Light counters despair
- DPS: Holy damage dealers have significant advantage
- Support: Buff preservation critical; void-wind strips protections
Key Tactics
- Maintain Faith - Literally; faith-based abilities counter despair
- Interrupt the Hand - Phase 3's ultimate is unsurvivable if completed
- Resist the Whisper - Party members who fall must be crowd-controlled or killed
- Stay Mobile - Reality Warp punishes static positioning
Common Mistakes
- Relying on non-faith buffs (void-wind strips them)
- Ignoring "Titan's Whisper" resist checks (turned allies are dangerous)
- Missing the interrupt on "Hand of the Titan" (guaranteed wipe)
- Losing hope (the land feeds on despair; maintain morale)
Lore Significance
The Titan's Return?
Morgathis's existence raises terrifying questions. If a hand can separate and become autonomous, what else might emerge? Is the Dark Titan truly dead, or merely scattered? Could it reassemble?
The Test of Faith
The Eclipse Barrens are where faith is tested most severely. Not combat skill, not tactical acumen-faith. Clerics and Paladins who enter doubt their purpose. Many leave changed. Some don't leave at all.
Note
The Barrens have the highest rate of psychological casualties among the dominions. Warriors who've never shown fear break here. Mages who've mastered the Anguish lose themselves. Only those with something to believe in survive intact.
The Whisper's Temptation
Morgathis doesn't just attack-it offers. Power. Purpose. An end to struggle. Some who hear the Titan's Whisper accept. They don't die; they simply stop fighting for the resistance. This loss of will is more dangerous than any physical defeat.

Quotes
"Kneel. Serve. The struggle ends. The pain fades. All you must do is stop fighting. All you must do is accept."
Morgathis, during Titan's Whisper
"I've been to all five dominions. The Barrens are the worst. Not because of Morgathis-because of what the land does to you while you're looking for him."
General Kira Ironhand
