Humans - The Unbound Children
Born after the gods, humans carry no cosmic debt-only infinite potential.
Humans
The Unbound Children
The youngest of Arcania's races, humans emerged after the Titans fell and the gods established their order. They carry no primordial essence, no cosmic burden-only the gift of choice and the curse of mortality. Their homeland is Meridia, where shield-bearers, bowmen, and warriors first united against the darkness.

Origin of the Unbound
"The other races were born from cosmic forces-light, shadow, earth, dreams. Humans? We were simply born. And in that simplicity lies our greatest strength."
Philosopher Aldric, "On Mortal Potential"
When Anias awakened and began consciously creating life, she made a deliberate choice. The Luminar carried her light. The world still bore scars of the Titans. Even the First World held echoes of her dreams. She wanted something new-life that owed nothing to the cosmic powers that shaped everything else.
So she created humans: beings with no inherent connection to Titans, no fragment of divine essence, no predetermined path. They were blank slates, capable of becoming anything.
Note
This is why humans can excel in any class. Luminar struggle with the Anguish. Darkan resist divine magic. But humans have no cosmic bias-they can channel any power equally.
The Gift of Choice
Where other races have predetermined strengths and weaknesses, humans have only potential:
- No Cosmic Debt - Humans owe nothing to Titans or gods
- Adaptive Nature - Can master any discipline through determination alone
- Short Lives, Urgent Purpose - Mortality drives them to achieve more in decades than immortals do in centuries
- Free Will - Truly free from cosmic influence in ways other races can never be
This makes humans unpredictable. A human can become a saint or a monster, a healer or a destroyer-the choice is entirely their own.
Humanity's History
The First Generation
Anias created humans last, just before the Duskfall. They had barely established their first settlements when the goddess was murdered.
The Orphan Age
Suddenly masterless, humans had to survive without divine guidance. While other races mourned their cosmic parents, humans simply adapted-they had never known cosmic dependency.
The Proving
During the Abyssal Age, humans proved their worth. When Paladins lost their light and Mages went mad, human fighters-who relied on no magic-held the line. This earned them respect from all races.
The Unifiers
Humans founded Arcania City as a place where all races could meet. Their lack of cosmic allegiance made them perfect diplomats-they could negotiate between Luminar and Lilin, Darkan and surface-dwellers, without ancient grudges clouding their judgment.
The Mortal Perspective
The Short Flame Burns Brightest
Humans live perhaps a century-a blink compared to Luminar millennia or Darkan centuries. This brevity shapes everything they do. They build quickly, love intensely, and fight desperately. Where immortals can wait out problems, humans must solve them now.
Some see this as a weakness. The wise see it as humanity's defining strength.
Culture
The Covenant of Choice
Humans believe their freedom from cosmic debt is sacred. Many reject divine magic entirely-not from hatred, but from a desire to prove mortal worth. The Steel Covenant (Warrior philosophy) originated with humans.
Ancestor Veneration
Unable to trace their lineage to cosmic beings, humans honor their mortal ancestors. Every human settlement maintains a Hall of Names where the dead are remembered.
The Great Debate
Human philosophers endlessly debate their origin. Some believe Anias made them intentionally free. Others wonder if she simply didn't have time to give them cosmic essence before she died. A few heretics whisper that humans arose spontaneously-that they were never created at all.

Notable Figures
General Kira Ironhand
Founder of the Steel Covenant. Watched her soldiers crumble when magic failed them during the Duskfall. Swore to never rely on powers that could be taken away.
High Priestess Veyla
The human acolyte who discovered the Eternal Light. Proved that mortals could connect to Anias's essence without being born from it.
Aldric the Undying
First Paladin, now more light than flesh. A human who transcended mortality through service.
Nimue the Godslayer
The mortal who murdered Anias. Proof that humans can challenge even the divine-for good or ill.
Lore Connections
Arcania City
The human-founded capital where all races meet. Built on neutral ground, it has no cosmic allegiance.
The Grand Alliance
Humans lead the alliance against Marael's forces. Their lack of cosmic bias makes them acceptable leaders to all races.
The Nimue Question
Humans struggle with Nimue's legacy. She proved mortal potential-but she also killed their creator. Most condemn her. Some secretly wonder if she was right.
The Unbound Philosophy
"Luminar carry Anias's waking light. Lilin carry her sleeping dreams. Darkan carry the Dark Titan's strength. We carry nothing but ourselves-and that is everything."
- Human Proverb
Humans believe their lack of cosmic essence is not a weakness but a gift. They are the only beings in Arcania truly free to choose their own destiny. This philosophy drives their determination, their ambition, and their refusal to accept limitations.
They are the Unbound Children-born free, dying free, and living every moment in between with desperate intensity.
